It all started with a love of sports. Mitchell & Ness Sporting Goods was founded in 1904 by Frank Mitchell and Charles Ness, a pair of entrepreneurial enthusiasts. The Philadelphia-born company was limited in scope at the time, focusing primarily on designing golf clubs, stringing tennis rackets, and producing uniforms for local teams.
By the โ30s, Mitchell & Ness was gearing up for something even bigger โ their pro football debut, when they were tasked with designing uniforms for Philadelphia. Not long after, they were also creating game wear for the areaโs professional baseball teams.
Game-Changer
It wasnโt until the mid โ80s, however, that things took a distinct turn for the brand that had previously been associated with the professional set. A customer arrived with two worn-out jerseys in his hands, hoping that Mitchell & Ness could restore them in some way.
And so, a new dream of designing genuine jerseys, as true to the authentic, historical designs as possible, came to life. It led to the development of Mitchell & Ness Nostalgia Co., and the company prided itself on designing pieces that would please even the most discerning fans.
