Life on Air
The release of the Nike Air Max 1 sneakers stopped the presses. While the Air technology had already debuted, the Air Max 1 did something new — it had a window in its heel to show that air technology in effect. From then on, a visible air pocket has been a factor in all Air Max shoes. But the revolution didn’t stop there — the midsole featured full-length air cushioning, further pushing the capability of the technology. Air units support the foot’s entire stride, from heel to toe, for ultimate spring and support. Now, air is a sought-out trait for both athletic and casual use.
Classic Innovation
The Air Max 90s broke into the new decade with wild style that influenced street culture. The updated version has today’s engineering with the retro look that made the world turn upside down. Check out the Air Max 97 and 98s for the same concept, but with slightly different styles.
Nike continued to update its Air Max shoes with the popular 270s, which are also available for tots in the 270 RT line. The Speed Turf is the perfect option for football athletes, as is the Upbeat Tempo for basketball players.
Reimagining the Air Max 1 style for today, the Vapormax Plus sneakers have bright, brilliantly layered colorways, while the Vapormax Flyknit 3 features the newest trend in uppers — the Flyknit weave that lets the foot breathe while providing premium, unrestrictive support. Perhaps the most innovative design yet is the 720’s futuristic vibe with a totally exposed outsole featuring the clean look of air. The 720 SATRN has the same out-of-this-world aesthetic, but in a high-top cut for more support.
