Free Motion
Women’s Nike Free sneakers are inspired by the anatomy of the foot. Designers Toby Hatfield and Eric Avar looked at the runner’s barefoot stride to engineer a shoe that would mimic and enhance the foot’s natural movement, in a barely-there design. To create a shoe that gave the impression that it’s part of the foot itself, the Nike Free integrated the midsole and outsole, to lighten the weight while the foot feels connected to the ground. The bottom features flex grooves strategically placed to loosen the foam’s structure. So this free motion in the flex grooves provides more flexible movement with each stride, so the foot is never limited to the sneaker’s construction. The upper is made with molded mesh to provide airflow as well as a secure, comfortable fit that stretches in tandem with the foot.
Free Style
Fully integrated freedom comes from several lines in the Free style. The Nike Free RN 5.0 has a low profile — literally. The super-low-cut collar enables completely free movement of the ankles and feet. The pared-down style is sleek with a minimalist design that caters to urban wear as well as the track. A single layer upper means the light-as-air feel extends above the foot, where an offset lacing system keeps pressure off the top, for more free flow.
Ramp it up with the Nike Free RN 2017, an iteration that strips the model even further, eliminating layering in the upper for an even freer feel. Flywire cables link to the lacing system, which enables a hyper-secure fit to prevent injury and enhance performance. The unique Auxetic outsole reacts to foot placement, expanding and contracting as strides hit and release from the ground, just like the foot.
